Ooops:
Corrections for CD1
There are 2 errors on CD1 (these are corrected in
the download version): a) fetal heart sketch: the Aorta, arising
from the Left Ventricle is incorrectly labelled "PA".
See online normal
fetal heart for correct label. b) Normal 3
text error: at the bottom it should read:
"A: The fetus has moved and the fetal
spine is 3 o'clock in View 5 and 7 o'clock in View 5 with Colour."
The spine is clearly visible in both these views.
See image "d" on preview page for
correct text.
(This error has been corrected in the new download)
Thanks to everyone who spotted these errors.

if you spot other errors or have comments.

Does
the CD
replace 'hands-on' training?
No. This CD is a useful introduction to fetal heart scanning
and a reminder of the 5 view protocol, but it cannot replace the
personal
experience of 'hands-on' training.
The 5 transverse views is a
practical and proven protocol for
scanning the fetal heart at the routine "20 week" anomaly scan.
Distribution of CD1 (2005)
"CD1: Normal Hearts in 5 Transverse Views
(2005)", was distributed free
in BMUS
Ultrasound, Aug. 2005 and at ISUOG, Sept. 2005.
We also distributed the new CD, "CD2: common
cardiac anomalies (2006)" at
BMUS (Dec. 2006, Manchester) with the
support of Siemens Medical Ultrasound.
Our Trainer has also supplied both CDs to hospitals in our
training programme.
We are creating a new
international CD, based on CD2 (2008). |

About
the new CD (2008)
Our CD illustrates a fetal heart
scan, in
"5 Transverse Views" to aid detection of fetal heart disease at "20
weeks"
Features:
The new CD replaces all previous CDs, as it contains
all their features, such as:
- Diagrams of the 5 transverse views in
relationship to the fetal chest
- Ultrasound scan stills and line diagrams showing
major structures and vessels for each view
- Fetal lie & corresponding normal abdominal situs
- Movies of 4 Normal fetal heart scans in 5 views,
plus extra views (e.g. colour Doppler movies or stills, Short Axis
views or Power Doppler) *
- '3D' normal fetal heart diagram
In addition the CD contains new features:
- Movies of 8 extra fetal cardiac anomalies in 5 views
with "hint" buttons to confirm your findings in each view
- 8 extra '3D' abnormal fetal heart diagrams
(with the normal fetal heart for comparison)
- MAC: Support for MAC
users on the CD
Plus, we are adding:
- easier layout and navigation
- international language version (currently in
development) - in several European languages, plus Japanese &
Chinese
Future
Plans
Subject to resources & funds, we are planning further
articles (or CDs), covering topics such as:
- differential diagnosis: cardiac anomalies at each view (with suspected conditions &
cross-references to anomalies in other views)
- common normal variants & soft markers
- SSA: a systematic language to describe cardiac anomalies, with morphology
Feedback
One teaching hospital commented:
"[we] have found
the fetal echo CD supplied by echoUK to be very useful in training
staff the technique of fetal echocardiography".
"It is a helpful tool for reminding sonographers of
the views commonly used in the practice of fetal echo".
