Report from the 1st Big Heart Bike Ride: Cycle Cuba
(14-23 April
2007)
This 370 km cycle ride
across the extraordinary island of
Cuba visited several key sights, including Havana
(one of the oldest cities in the Americas),
Bay of Pigs, UNESCO World Heritage town
of Trinidad with its Spanish
architecture, Santa Clara (Che Guevara's statue) and the Sierra del Escambray mountains.

Report: The riders
returned from Cuba late on
Sunday evening after a hugely
successful challenge with lots
of enthusiasm and commitment.
The cycling was a real challenge
for everyone – including some
very good cyclists – with lots
of hills and a mountain
on day
3, but the group really bonded
and everyone felt they fully
deserved all the sponsorship
funds they have raised so far
and determined to go out and
raise more.
Thanks to
everyone who participated,
sponsored, supported and
encouraged the riders!

Enjoy some of Italy’s most spectacular scenery while
scaling its three famous volcanoes. When we land in Italy we have
time to visit one of the New 7 Wonders of the World,
the Colosseum in Rome before reaching Sorrento. Our challenge starts
with Vesuvius in southern Italy best known for the explosion that
buried nearby Pompeii. It’s then on to Stromboli, a tough, steep
trek to the summit of the volcano, which dominates this small
island. The challenge culminates on the slopes of smouldering Mount
Etna in Sicily, one of the most active volcanoes in the world.

Suggestions
for competing in Marathons and other events
1. To raise money for the
charity by running in a Marathon
or other event we suggest you apply individually.
We do
not have guaranteed places for
April's London Marathon, due to
its popularity, but you can
apply individually (with about a
1 in 4 chance of being accepted
each year); other races
(Triathlon, half marathon, 10K
etc.) may have a better chance
2.
If you successful, please
contact us - we can help with publicity
through our website, sponsorship sheets etc.
3.
Create your
online sponsorship page,
for online fundraising and provide information about
yourself and your event

Sershin competed in the gruelling mountain
stage of the Tour De France on 16 July 2007 and has
raised over £600
Enterprise at GWC, 2007
Students
at George Watson’s College in
Edinburgh took part in the
Young Enterprise scheme and set up a company called “Crunch
Ltd”, to sell canvas shopping
bags that say “green
at he©rt”
and t-shirts that say “I
©
GWC”
(using a heart symbol, as shown
in the picture, below).
Crunch gave all their profits
(about £900) to 2 charities, so
half went to Tiny Tickers.

The idea behind this scheme is
for students to work in teams to
see how business works. They have
to follow the process through
brainstorming, negotiating with
manufacturers, advertising and
selling their product and
distributing it. They then have
the opportunity to sell their
products at a trade fair at a
local shopping centre.
Top Award, 24th March '07:
Crunch
went to the awards evening on
the 22nd
March and came out with the top
award, for the best company in
Edinburgh, beating 23 other
companies. They then went
on to the next stage of the
competition, competing against
all the best companies in
Scotland in June. Sadly
they did not win, but they
really learnt a lot from the
experience.
Tiny Tickers is delighted to be one
of the charities chosen by Crunch and wish the members of the team
every success in the future.
